Geraldton Foreshore Redevelopment and CBD Revitalisation Project

Description: Redevelopment of Geraldton's foreshore to encourage increased interaction between Geraldton’s city centre and Champion Bay isresulting in a revitalised and dynamic CBD. Due to the considerable synergies and cost savings involved, the foreshore redevelopedfollowing the removal of the railway from the foreshore.
Status: The State Government announced in May 2004, it would contribute $9.98M of funding directly to this project over the following five years. Funding will be provided to the City of Geraldton - Greenoughthrough the Mid West Development Commission in line with the project schedule and milestones. The State Government has also established a ForeshoreRedevelopment AdvisoryCommittee to facilitate State Government agency coordination. In December 2007, the State Governmentcommitted a further $3.3M to the projectto meet cost increases and scope changes.
Next Steps: Work on the project is currently progressing on schedule. It is anticipated the project’s original scope will be completed by the end of the 2008/09 financial year. Other initiatives which were not part of the original scope such as the proposed multi-user facility are being progressed as separate projects.
