Geraldton Greenough Tourism Strategy
Proponent: Mid West Development Commission
Value: $25,000 +
Location: Geraldton, Western Australia
Description:
MWDC is working with Tourism Western
Australia and other key local stakeholders to develop a tourism strategy for Geraldton-Greenough. The recently released consultant’s report includes:
a. A review of the current state of tourism in the city and of forthcoming developments that may have impact on the industry;
b. A proposed vision for tourism in the city, including the key “experiences” it has to offer visitors – the recommendations here focus on the Batavia story, Abrolhos Islands, beach to bush landscapes and coastal lifestyle; and
c. A prioritised list of recommendations detailing what needs to happen for Geraldton-Greenough to realise its tourism potential.
A Reference Group led by the Commission has overseen the project. This group includes representatives from the City of
Geraldton-Greenough, Tourism Western
Australia, Mid West Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mid West Gascoyne Area Consultative Committee, Geraldton Regional Tourism Association, Abrolhos Islands Management Advisory Committee and
Australia’s
Coral
Coast.
The overall aim of the project is to establish strong partnerships to work strategically towards realising Geraldton’s tourism potential and to assist in further diversifying the city’s economic base.
