What we do
“Making the Mid West a better place to live, work and invest!”
The Mid West Development Commission works to promote the sustainable development of Western Australia's Mid West region.
The Commission manages and assists with the management of a number of economic and community based projects.
Current projects include the establishment of a Mid West Community Foundation, the Geraldton Foreshore Redevelopment and CBD Revitalisation project, development of a Marine Services Precinct incorporating a 200t heavy boat lifter at the Geraldton Port, establishment of a radio astronomy observatory at Boolardy and planning for the needs and impacts of major resources development. For details about what we are currently working on go to: Current Projects.
Our past achievements include helping to establish the Geraldton Universities Centre and the Separation Point Marine Precinct, managing the establishment of the Gascoyne Murchison Outback Pathways and many others. For more information about completed projects, go to: Achievements.
The Commission also actively promotes and assists eligible groups to access State and Federal Government funding programs including our own funding program the Mid West Regional Development Scheme. Information on funding assistance is available at: Funding.
In addition, the Commission acts as a referral point, assisting people and groups working on projects, and business or industry to develop products/services that will have benefits for the whole Mid West community.
Some of this assistance includes:
- Developing networks between government, industry and community by putting our clients in touch with the right people.
- Providing information and advice including regional statistics and information about “What is happening in the Mid West”.
- Promotion of the business capability in the region and helping Government and private industry to “Buy Local”.
- State Government liaison.
As the key State Government representative in the Mid West, a key part of the Commission’s work is to provide timely and accurate advice to the State on major issues impacting on the region’s development.
