The Mid West has a strong traditional manufacturing sector that supports various mainstay industries such as mining and primary production.
The Mid West also has a key role to play in the State’s broader decarbonisation, clean energy transition, critical minerals, space, radio astronomy, data storage, marine services and defence agendas.
With business innovation and investment in new technologies and expertise, these emerging industries present a range of diverse new opportunities for local manufacturers.
The Commission has worked to provide better understanding of existing manufacturing sector acumen, emerging global demands that align with local capability, business aspirations and interventions necessary to realise opportunities with greatest economic potential.
The resulting Study reaffirmed the impressive scale and range of sophisticated manufacturing capability in the Mid West, particularly to support mining services, rail, marine services, agricultural machinery and general construction.
The Commission continues to work with the businesses to help address shared challenges including training, workforce development, utility connections and government approvals.
A collaborative regional Capability Overview has been developed, to promote the collective capability of Mid West businesses to major project proponents with interest in the region.
It highlights individual business strengths, their project highlights and relevant qualifications and certifications while also showcasing their collective capability to contribute in a meaningful way to emerging major capital projects.
